Hello to all of our family and friends,

We want to thank all of you, those of you who have been with us since the beginning of our journey with Wycliffe Bible Translators and those that we have just met along the way. We have been so blessed to have you all with us as we walk this path into full-time ministry and serving Bibleless people around the world. Thank you to all of you who have encouraged us, prayed for us, served us, and given to us. We have just passed the one-year anniversary of our employment with Wycliffe and it is amazing how we have seen God move in us and for us.

We are writing to you now as we are currently in what I (Melanie) affectionately like to call Miracle Mode. This means that we are praying for and seeking a miracle from God. That miracle is that we have 52 days to become fully funded so that we can move to North Carolina in January. We need to know by January 1, 2013 if we have pledges for 100% of our monthly budget so that we can pack up and move to North Carolina as we need to be there on January 22 to start our Inter Cultural Communications training class. That class will be one month long and then we would begin work after that.

We are hoping that this is God’s timing for us to begin our work with Wycliffe Bible Translators for two reasons. One is that we are so excited about what God is doing for Bibleless people around the world and we can’t wait to help. Wycliffe is working toward their goal of beginning the final Bible translation by 2025 and it looks like they will make it. The technical team in North Carolina is waiting for Phillip to be there to work on numerous projects! The second is for the peace and well-being of our family. If we are not fully funded by January 1st, then we will need to fly out to North Carolina, move into the apartment at the Wycliffe campus, have Hunter begin preschool there, but then pack up and come back to California to continue our partnership development after February. It would be much easier for Hunter and us to settle into our apartment and preschool there in January and be able to stay. We are asking God to do this, but we trust He will lead us in His timing.

So you will be hearing from us often during next 7 weeks as we update you on how this miracle is progressing. Our exciting new tool for staying in contact with you all is our website: http://theshipleys.org. We can finally launch our website because Phillip is done working at Cisco and so we can be fully public about our new ministry. If you would like to add our blog to your personalized homepage, you can do so by visiting our website and click on the orange feed icon in the upper right hand corner.

How can you be a part of our miracle?

  1. Pray for us ! We need prayer more than anything. Please pray that people’s hearts would be moved to partner with us and God would provide the funding by January. If you want to get more frequent and detailed prayer requests from us, please email us or sign up to be a prayer partner on our website.
  2. Connect us. If you can connect us with new potential partners, your small group, or church for an opportunity to share, that is a tremendous help to us.
  3. Give to Wycliffe for our ministry. We currently have pledges for 67% of our monthly budget and over 100% of our one-time expenses thanks to the incredible generosity of you all. We need on-going pledges for monthly, quarterly or annual donations because we are making a long-term commitment to serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators and Wycliffe requires that we have this funding in place to know that we will be able to stay there. We know that it is scary to take a step of faith to make a commitment like that, but we can share that God blesses your faith! Please visit http://theshipleys.org/partner-with-us/ to make your pledge.

I shared about our prayer for this miracle to happen for our family in a church prayer meeting today and our pastor reminded us that it took 52 days for Israel to re-build the wall of Jerusalem in Nehemiah. Just as He did a miracle in 52 days then, we are praying for one now. We hold fast to Ephesians 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”

Thanks for all of your support,
Phillip, Melanie, & Hunter Shipley
